Space Marine, finished , I think

Work In Progress / 06 November 2024

Played the game and I see how much I got wrong lol (my shoulders are waaaay off).

Been very busy at work and got I bit bummed by how awesome the suits look in the game but I finished it :D  the texturing a least. Went for the ceramic look of the game and not the worn painter metal like before, I like it!

When I find the time , I 'll try to make some nice renders with nice poses with my blenshapes for the face (that are a still bit shit to be honest)

Some progress made over the week end. I'm trying out plasticity and praticed by making the Bolter , it's not great but more than good enough for this guy. what is left to do : finish the helmet, make a powersword, a blenshape and a complete texture overhaul.

cheers

Space Marine More wip

Work In Progress / 21 March 2024

Retopo is freedom.

The texture is just my base materials for now. I have a feeling the head is too big and that the shoulders are too small. Next to build are weapons , seals of purity , pouches...

This is fun, I am starting to feel confident enough to tackle something  more ornate and busy (tech priest, big Orc or chaos dude).

Work In Progress / 15 March 2024

A little update, the pace is slow .

The texture is basic for now , I will refine it a lot when I have all the pieces baked. The head is the zbrush export with a quick polypaint. I don't want to make him bald because he looks  already very generic but space marines DO look better bald :] The Eyebrows are going to be a struggle. Once all the basic parts are done I'll try and make him more unique and work on the story telling.

The sculpt if faaaaar from done but I wanted to work on the materials to get a better idea of where I am going, *I imagine a layered and weathered armor that has been repaired and repainted many times( like a WW2 tank). My thinking is that that even on fresh recruits these aren't new, because the armors are so rare and precious it would be costumary to wear already used or salvaged pieces.  Will add tons of damge , dirt and crap.

I love the gothic over the top vibe of WH40k but this guy  is gong to be simple and quite tactical , more like a special force guy then a religious zealot.

Geeking out 3

Work In Progress / 04 March 2024

Some more chipping away during the WE. The hands suck , the relic sucks , the damage is meh, lots to figure out still. but it is quite relaxing :)

Space Marines are cool. there are hundreds of them on artstation , it has been done many times a lot better then I ever will be able to but I don't care :)

New evening/week-end project. Still trying to shape things out, I might go for a semi realistic / painterly look to try out something new and bring some originality to the piece. I am working without a specific concept but I will try to stay really close to the ip  and to some beautiful illustrations I have found..

New side project. This time focussing on  Female anatomy and cloth sculpting. I am following the concept art piece by https://www.artstation.com/jroid for Jedi Fallen order. I hope the finished asset ends up  just half as good as the original by https://www.artstation.com/eugene.

Early blockout stage, trying to figure things out. I did spend quite some time making the female basemesh.

Work In Progress / 13 May 2023

So... I've spent roughly 14 "french"working days on this , my self imposed limit being 15 days I will stop here. There is a lot I would do differently but like in production you have to move on. As always I now really dislike this asset and see only the flaws in it : it's ridgid and the fur is horrendous :) . Reflecting on it I wish I had followed the concept art more closely as I feel the original savagery is lost . I discarded the fur on the boots as my result was not satisfactory. I realised how much I struggle with hair cards styling , it will therefore be the focus on my next self imposed 2-3 weeks challenge. I really like the idea of setting deadlines for personnal projects as I tend to iterate forever and simply move on to other things because I just get bored or frustrated that I can not achieve what I had in mind.
